- The Choice of a Windows Operating System -

It all started with the release of Windows 95 - in 1995; a century ago - computer timing. And afterwards Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows Me, Windows 2003, XP, VISTA, and now Windows 7 - released in year 2009, which is the current buzz in the cyberspace.

Windows 95 was an instant success, as it was a huge improvement from the "archaic" Windows 3.1. The other operating systems listed above were also quickly accepted by the computing community - though without the excitation - people lining up in front of computer-shops and malls, since midnight - the day before the release to be sure to get a copy of Windows 95. Remember?

Then come Windows XP that introduced a greater stability in desktop computing. And when VISTA follows suit, it was welcomed with a clamor of disapproval. Pundits were and still are adamant, VISTA is too slow, not reliable, too "heavy". And so on. I remember well the computer-shop "expert" advising me not to install VISTA and to stick to XP, when I bought a new Quad Core computer in 2009.

I did not complied. I took the machine loaded with XP, and redo the install with VISTA ULTIMATE 32 bits to get acquainted with the system, and three months later I opted for the 64 bits version.

This machine running VISTA ULTIMATE 64bits is loaded with Microsoft Security Essentials (an extraordinary Security Suite / FireWall, Anti-Virus, Antispyware. You need to just install and forget about it. It is the perfect sentinel that would warn you if any danger lurks around. No aggressive marketing, constant update. It is FREE.) The machine manages 130 applications (and some heavy ones like Adobe Web Standard - 2.5GB for web designing, management and maintenance.) It is running smoothly and is (in my opinion more stable than our machine running XP3), which from time to time still shows Blue Screens.

Indeed, VISTA ULTIMATE is not far from Windows 7, as it is equipped with the BitLocker Encryption System as is Windows 7 (See Control Panel to review BitLocker Encryption's possibilities).

At Africabiz Online, we have always chosen the upper-end option of Windows Operating Systems that always are more sophisticated (security wise) than the lower end options. And we always wait for a new comer operating system to be updated with service packs before we contemplate installing it. Therefore, we shall not upgrade to Windows 7 before at least two more years. And when we do make the upgrade, we will go straight for Windows 7 ULTIMATE 64 bits - the future of desktop computing for 2010-decade.

Below is another opinion about VISTA by guest Author Tom Jon.

- Is Windows Vista Really That Bad?

Many people have been asking if windows vista is really that bad. They ask do they need it? They really consider if they should upgrade or not.

While windows vista has had it's fair share of problems all is not lost. The operating system is actually pretty good. More so than most people give it credit for.

Microsoft put a lot more technology into vista then more people realize. This version of windows has many more features to keep your computer clean and running good. Past versions did not have these all important features.

There have been problems people have reported with vista but, they also reported problems when windows xp came out.

And since the release of service pack one for vista, it has fixed many of the problems people have been reporting.

It takes any company time to make things right and windows is no different. The general rule of thumb is to not buy any new operating system until the first service pack is released.

That way you give them time to work out the bugs and get everything fixed. People do seem to complain a lot about vista but the truth is it ain't really that bad.

It is the most secure windows to date and Microsoft is releasing updates vista on a regular basis to make sure everything is fixed.

Microsoft has to battle hackers and virus writers daily. There is always someone trying to break the windows code and make it inoperable.

When you think about it Microsoft does a great job fighting this and keeping everything up to date.

If you haven't taken a look at vista you owe it to yourself to see what all vista has to offer.

It really is a pretty cool operating system and it is secure. Also it will only get better as time goes on. Don't listen to everyone talk about how bad it is.

Most of those people do not know how to operate windows correctly anyhow. And truly a mac really isn't that much better.

Microsoft cannot keeps tabs on every vendor that writes software for windows. That is why Microsoft has a rule.

Only load software that was certified by Microsoft to run on windows vista. If you don't and you call for support they may tell you something you don't want to hear.

Read the book and the box that comes along with vista and you will see where its says to only load this type of software.

Just remember any new operating system that comes out does take some time to mature and get better. Give vista a try today you will be glad you did tomorrow.
