We all know
how annoying it is when just in the middle of an important work load - rushing
to finish a report or communicating / exchanging files / conferencing online with
a client / collaborator - our computer froze with the blue screen and the following
message: ... the current application will be terminated; and we have to
reboot the whole system.
This "fatal error" thing was
the plague of Windows 95 and still happens often with Windows 98 and many other
windows related applications (Microsoft Word, Internet Explorer - particularly
IE version 5.5, and several third parties applications).
There are some
utilities available out there in the cyberspace called crash controllers designed
to control and avoid the frequency of such unnerving behavior of Windows operating
system. The most used are Crash Guard from Symantec and the one integrated
in the NUTS and BOLTS package from Networks Associates International. I
tried and used both for quite three years but wasn't satisfied with the result.
Some times ago I came across a little tool named: "System Crash Modifier"
designed by Kevin Lyall which is a wonder.
It does the job perfectly and believe me or not since I installed it my system
is more stable and Internet Explorer crashes are scarce...I am plainly satisfied.
Now I run multiple applications when conferencing on line without the appearance
of the dreadful "fatal error" blue screen.
In addition "System
Crash Modifier" features a nice "System Info" panel which you
can reach by:
1- Clicking the "Help" button and then the "About";
and at the right bottom corner: 2- The "System Info" button
Kevin
Lyall' System Crash Modifier is available for free here.
Digital signature is soon bound to be accepted as proof of the signer's commitment
on a document as was handwritten signature. Many countries in the Northern hemisphere
are enacting laws to permit their citizens to use digital signature and thus develop
electronic commerce.
There are two ways to digitally signing documents:
1- Encrypted digital signature. 2- Simple hand written signature.
To perform encrypted digitally
signed document (Microsoft Word document, Microsoft Excel document, etc.) you
need a dedicated software - like Pretty Good Privacy (PGP) from Network Associates
International or Verisign' software - which generates a string of algorithm -
standing as your signature - hard to decipher by a third party and only to be
checked and verify by your correspondent equipped with the right key.
Until now to hand sign a document on your computer you need to install additional
hardware and perform a transfer to the document;
There is now the possibility
to stamp your Microsoft Word 97 / 2000 or Excel 97 / 2000 documents - right away
from the application - with a handwritten signature; without any additional hardware.
That handwritten signature cannot be forged and is so tightly embedded in the
signed document that any attempt - by a third party - to modify the original wording
of said document results in the initial signature' stamp being question marked
and easily noticed by the receiver.
The
little software which makes you apposed a secured handwritten signature on your
Word 97/ 2000 or Excel 97 / 2000 documents - and impress your correspondent -
is available for free at this link. TOP
